Samode Palace and Samode Bagh. Nestled in a narrow valley between red-and-green hills 45 km (28 mi) from Jaipur, this 18th-century palace, built in the shadow of a small fort, towers over its little village. The palace has splendidly painted and enameled public rooms. Guest rooms, which have pillars and arches, are furnished with traditional Rajasthani-style chairs and beds with mosquito-net canopies. The rooms are not regal, but they're clean and comfortable. Royal Suites are spacious and even have their own fireplace, courtyard, and Jacuzzis. The staff can arrange horse, camel, and Jeep safaris. Three kilometers (1.9 mi) from the palace is Samode Bagh, a luxurious tented camp, or "garden retreat."
