$$$$, Mount Abu
Fodor's Review:
Rising like a yellow ochre vision in the middle of the Aravalli hills is one of the loveliest palaces in Rajasthan. It's been carefully restored, and is beautifully maintained. The rooms, however, are modern, and though very attractive, do little to remind you you're in Rajasthan. The heritage look and feel is deliberately missing, which is strange, considering you're inside an ancient palace. Marble predominates; even the bed is made of marble. Furniture is sleek and contemporary. Windows look out on terrific views of the Aravallis -- the palace was positioned to command one of the three passes into the Udaipur valley. Walk west from the palace at sunset and look back at it, or relax on the terrace or explore the surrounding hills.
