As you approach its dusky yellow domes from a boat across the navy waters of Lake Pichola, you may wonder whether this contemporary palace isn't a refreshing update on traditional Rajasthani architecture. Everything gets the royal treatment, from luxurious décor to palatial rooms—some with semi-private pools. While Udaipur is an inexhaustible source of sightseeing, the resort has a well-curated menu of cultural activities: learn to cook local specialties and go shopping with the chef, glimpse peacocks and other wildlife in the adjacent sanctuary, attend a demonstration on miniature painting, or indulge a whim and get your fortune told by an astrologer. Add to these the Oberoi's trademark top-notch service and you may find yourself riding the boat back to Udaivilas again and again.

Rekindle a Romance
From its soaring lakeside turrets to the nineteenth-century hunting lodge within its grounds, Udaivilas is a royal, Mewar-style retreat. But despite the grandeur of its fountains, sweeping views of the surrounding olive Aravalli hills, and unforgettable stretch of pool, this modern-day palace manages to create plenty of intimate space for romance as well. Sunset shikara rides in Lake Pichola, meandering walkways and waterways, hand crafted embellishments, and semi-private swimming areas (in some rooms) may convince you that you're in a Rajasthani miniature painting. A private moonlit dinner on the hotel's "floating pavilion", catered by one of three excellent restaurants, completes the illusion.
