One of Ahmedabad's top textile-mill-owning families has converted a circa-1900 Gujarati haveli into a exceedingly charming hotel, giving each room a different character and size. Furnished with rare antique pieces, giant beds with voluminous mosquito nets and lots of colorful fabric each room is a surprise. Although the feel is decidedly old fashioned, the facilities are not—they include high-pressure showers and satellite radio. What the hotel suffers in location (it's in a busy area with not much in the way of views) it makes up with impeccable service and excellent restaurants. The Green House serves piping-hot snacks and Indian fast food, and you won't forget its attached restaurant, Agashiye thalis in a hurry. Pros: lovely rooms, excellent dining options, comfortable. Cons: no view, expensive.
