Diu has several newish hotels and older Portuguese-style lodgings, but none are as attractive as this complex of rooms and cottages about a ½ km (¼ mi) over the border in Gujarat, within striking distance of the town of Diu. The plain reception room was constructed in 1937 by the Maharaja of Junagadh. Opt for the slightly more expensive beach-facing cottages, which are a more upscale version of typical, Gujarati village homes. They have large wooden swings on the front porches but the bathrooms are slightly messy. The resort looks out over the clean and private Ahmedpur Mandavi Beach, where meals are served under a thatch canopy. It's possible to go parasailing, rent a speedboat or water scooter, and ride a camel here. Pros: idyllic setting, full of character, pretty cottages. Cons: far from town, could be cleaner.
