The upscale, 40-year-old Cama has the city's loveliest gardens and best views of the Sabarmati. The lawns, palm trees, chirping birds, and small swimming pool grant respite after a hectic, hot day. The reception area has an elegant art-deco motif, and the lobby is decorated with Gujarati handicrafts, antiques, and has large white-marble jalis (intricately carved window frames). Rooms, slightly faded, are large, comfortable, and have an old-style feeling, with pale walls, dark bedspreads, and huge tubs. Request a room facing the river. The hotel has a liquor store and can get a liquor permit for you, a valuable item in this dry state. Pros: pretty location, large, atmospheric rooms, great garden area in back. Cons: aging hotel, expensive.
