The Taj chain's Ahmedabad branch is upscale, low, sprawling and done in dull brown stone. A few minutes from the airport and 9 km (5½ mi) from the city, it lacks a spectacular location or exteriors. The medium-size rooms, done in rich colors such as dark green and orange silk and with mahogany-colored, heavy wood furniture, are attractive and rather comfortable, with views of either the pool or into the garden. Excellent food is served at the coffee shop and at its Indian cuisine restaurant, Narmada; service, too, is above average. Pros: comfortable rooms, very good restaurants, great pool. Cons: uninteresting location, expensive, ugly building.
