The large, attractive park known as Sayaji Bagh, on University Road, contains the Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery, open daily except Monday 10:30-5:30. The former royal collection is housed in a eye-catching Indo-Saracenic palace in the center of the peaceful park and showcases a very interesting assortment of artifacts (some from Japan, Nepal and China), historical objects, weapons, art and paintings as well as rare Hindu and Jain sculpture and miniature paintings. There are also some zoological specimens. Giant, beautifully carved doors unearthed from former Gujarati havelis can be seen here, too. There is also a surprisingly large collection of pictures attributed to international artists like Cezanne, Van Gogh, and Matisse. Sayaji Bagh also has a floral clock; a wee, boring zoo; and an interesting mini train that chugs about the park.
