Once home to the maharaja of Jaipur, this airy, cream-color palace is relaxing and wistfully romantic, down to the peacocks strutting across the lawns and the arcaded back patios. One of the first palaces to be converted into a Heritage Hotel, the standard rooms are spacious and largely contemporary. Superior and luxury rooms have traditional furnishings and colorful Shekhawati-style frescoes on the walls. Most higher-end rooms have original furnishings. The suites are opulent and an aesthically appealing blend of luxuriously modern comforts and intricate old-world detailing. Pros: newly added wing with luxurious suites offers plush window seats and flat-screen TVs; lovely original indoor pool as well as a newer outdoor pool area. Cons: walking distance to the tourist sites (auto-rickshaws are available right outside hotel gates).
