Among the grandest of the traditional homes, this one in the village of Bagar has three courtyards enclosed by colonial pillared corridors. Originally built as the home of Seth Piramal Chaturbhuj Makharia (1892-1958), who made his fortune trading cotton, opium, and silver in Bombay, the frescoes here allude to Makharia's wealth—they depict flying angels and gods in motorcars. The hotel is run by the Neemrana Group, and although it's nothing like the Neemrana Fort Palace, its simple rooms are good-looking. Pros: intimate, without the hotel feel; a short car ride from the sights of Shekhawati. Cons: no pool.
