Founded in the mid-18th century by Raja Mukand Singh, this picturesque fort in the town of Mukandgarh, famous for its artisans, is now a Heritage Hotel. A bar overlooks the courtyard, where at an outdoor barbecue you can get kebabs and curry in the evening. Guest rooms have painted walls and ceilings, tie-dye curtains, and patchwork bedspreads. Pros: a five-minute walk from the Babali Baba Mandir, the main temple in town. Cons: some rooms in the new wing don't have windows, so check your room before you book it; cash only.
