Built between the 4th and 16th centuries, this enormous fort serves as backdrop to a royal camp of spacious tents, decorated inside with hand-blocked designs. Conveniently, the tents also have electric lanterns and attached bathrooms with flush toilets (hot water is hand-carried via bucket). To signal for service, you hang a little red flag outside the door of your tent. The camp is open between March and October and functions with an additional 50 tents during the cattle fair. Meals are served in a marble pavilion, in what was once a Moghul garden; in the evening, you can sip cocktails and sit back on cushions, in front of a bonfire, to watch a performance of traditional folk dances. Pros: unique experience in an extraordinary place. Cons: a lot of money to live in a tent, you must reserve at least 60 days in advance for the cattle fair.
