Most of Orissa's top tourist attractions run along the east coast, from Bhubaneswar, south to Gopalpur-on-Sea, a beach destination that's reachable in a few hours by train. In between, the highlights are easily navigable in a day or more by car and driver (the best way) or by taking organized tours and day trips. Bhubaneswar can be explored in a day if you stick to the temples and museums, or enjoyed at more length by adding in the nearby Buddhist ruins, the zoo, and the Jain caves. To get to the tribal villages you'll have to join a tour and allot at least five days.
