Z Hotel Review

Probably the best, cleanest backpacker lodging in Puri, Z Hotel is in an airy 1916 bungalow called Amulya Bhavan owned once by the raja of Serampore (WestBengal), and surrounded by a quiet enclosed garden. Staying in this friendly rambling house is almost like a homestay. The 10 doubles, two singles, and six-bed women's dorm (great value at Rs. 100 a bunk) are spacious, very clean and bright, functionally furnished with white walls and tile floors. Only five rooms (doubles) have private baths; when the sun cooperates, there are solar-heated showers. Two doubles have balconies that let in even more light, but possibly more mosquitoes—a problem in Puri—but big white mosquito nets over the beds keep you safe at night. Book ahead; it's popular.
