Trident Review

A tranquil, sophisticated property set among 14 acres of papaya, mango, banana, and coconut trees, 10 km (6 mi) from town, the Trident has the most expensive rooms in Bhubaneswar. The Spartan lobby reflects traditional Orissa ornamentation: at the center are huge brass temple bells suspended by 10-foot-long chains; the balcony, supported by beautifully carved sandstone columns, is guarded by six stone lions. The guest rooms combine Orissan art—such as the stone temple-style sculptures inset in the headboard above each bed—with touches that reflect the sensibility of the Thai designer who redid the rooms, imbuing them with Burmese teak parquet floors, beech cabinetry, oodles of cream marble, lush fabrics in teal blue and gold, and great mattresses and feather pillows. There's also a jogging track on site.
