Puri has many garden restaurants, but in this charming garden—palm trees, flowering bushes, temple statues, terra-cotta lanterns—tables are set not only within a covered central area and under thatched open huts, but up on platforms in trees. You can get a good Orissan thali (platter) here, with specialties like grilled eggplant, tuna masala, the sugary tomato dish khata, and santula; but they need a little advance notice; call them the day before. Or go for the fresh seafood. Bengali dishes are also available but require advance notice. Be prepared to use the little bell on your table to summon the waiter—service is not fast. They offer a drop back to your hotel after your meal.
