Once your eyes adjust to the darkness, you'll find yourself in a small, simple dining room with white stucco walls, terra-cotta-color tile floors, and glass-top tables. The larger room, behind it, is nicer and brighter, with mirrored walls. Universally praised by locals for its Chinese and decent, reasonably priced Indian fare (with a few Thai and Continental dishes thrown in), Dawat is always hopping with customers. Good choices include the ginger prawns and the vegetable dopiaza, a spicy mix of fresh vegetables cooked al dente. You can opt for some competently-cooked Oriya food as well; try the dahi machli (fish in yogurt sauce) or the santula (vegetables in coconut gravy).
