Vaital Temple
Vaital Temple Review
This 8th-century, highly decorated, but rather small temple peeping at the Bindu Sagar is one of the area's earliest and is virtually hidden within its neighborhood of small whitewashed homes, cricket games, and modest shops. It's devoted to the tantric mother goddess Chamunda, who arose from fierce goddess Durga, an avatar of Parvati, the wife of Shiva. Chamunda is seated on a corpse, wearing a necklace of skulls, with a jackal and owl next to her. The two-story, barrel-shaped roof shows an influence of South Indian architecture. Bring a flashlight to see the carvings inside.
