More and more good, air-conditioned hotels cater to India's upper-middle class and businesspeople, but such places are often quite generic. Outside the old British cantonment areas, where most top hotels are clustered, and often closer to the center of town, you'll find clean, well-run guest houses and small Heritage Hotels.
