Cars & Drivers in Mumbai (Bombay) and Maharashtra

Cars & Drivers

In certain areas, such as bazaars, you really have to walk for the full experience. Aside from these, having a car at your disposal is the most convenient way to sightsee, as you can zip (or crawl, depending on the time of day) around town without the repeated hassle of hailing taxis and haggling over fares. To arrange a hired car, inquire at your hotel's travel desk or contact a travel agency. (You'll probably pay much more if you book through your hotel.) You'll get lower rates from private agents like Adarsh or Travel House: Rs. 800 to Rs. 1,000 for a full day (8 hours, or 80 km) in a car (Uno or Indica; small cars) with air-conditioning, and Rs. 1,500 or more for an air-conditioned sedan car like a Maruti Esteem. Rates go up for Toyotas, Mercedes, and other luxury cars.
