A long driveway takes you away from the main road and through spacious grounds to this not-very-majestic-looking hotel, decorated simply with red bands of elephants chiseled on its bleach-white facade. What the Rama lacks in external majesty is made up for by tasteful interiors. The efficient and friendly staff provide personalized service and create the kind of warm, intimate setting you'd normally associate with a smaller hotel. Standard rooms, in two wings around the pool, are spacious, plush, and comfortably elegant, with views onto the verdant garden of palms and bright flower beds. However, they open out into the garden. Corner suites are vast. Pros: very good value, intimate, good service, nice views, comfortable rooms. Cons: small pool.
