Pune is as famous for its Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute as it is for the Osho commune. From this modest and serene three-story bungalow, the nearly 90-year-old grandmaster of yoga, the venerable Yogacharya (yoga teacher) B. K. S. Iyengar still runs a series of workshops along with his son and daughter. Iyengar's type of yoga was developed to be practiced by anyone and is a way of life. His numerous disciples come from all parts of the world; the specialized courses must be booked as much as two years in advance, and aspirants must also have eight years of familiarity with Iyengar Yoga. However, the institute does offer a monthlong beginner's course that is one hour, six days a week, starting at the beginning of each month (Rs. 4,500).
