Seafood from the Konkan coast (which stretches from Maharashtra south through Goa to Mangalore, Karnataka) is extraordinarily popular in Mumbai, but for years it was only available in no-frills "lunch homes" in the business district. But here you can get fish-curry rice-plate lunches in luxurious surroundings. Although crummy taverns and souped-up lunch homes may very well do it better, chef Ananda Solomon's food is tasty, and the coastal-home feel is appealing. Opt for the fried fish, sukha chicken (dry masala chicken), pepper chicken, red masala clams, appams (steamed dosas) steamed pomfret, coastal maida (white-flour) paratha, or the vegetarian thali.
