For some asli (authentic) and hearty Punjabi food, head out to this funky restaurant. Styled like a truckers' roadside dhaba (eatery) found along the highways of India, Papa Pancho has simple, clunky metal dishware and is decorated with bumper signs (for instance, OK Horn Please) and lemon-and-green-chilli good-luck charms. The dal makhani (butter dal), papdi chaat (a cold snack), baingan bharta (roasted and spiced eggplant), mince parathas (stuffed meat whole-wheat pancakes), and the creamy lassi are delectable and could almost be homemade. Since the restaurant is in Bandra, a bit far from south or north Mumbai, it's a good idea to visit this place on a Sunday, when the commuter-free journey takes just half an hour. No alcohol is served.
