Built in 1867 and dedicated to Sitalnathji, the 10th of the 24 tirthankaras ("perfect souls," or sages that have achieved Nirvana), this Jain temple is a flamboyant one, filled with inlaid-mirror pillars, stained-glass windows, floral-pattern marble floors, a gilded dome, and chandeliers from 19th-century Paris and Brussels. The garden holds blocks of glass mosaics depicting European figures and statues covered with silver paint. Paresnath is an unusual place of honor for the typically ascetic Jains.
