Fodor's Review

This is an expensive all-in-one shop with goods from all over India. You can find brocade work, marble inlay boxes, and Kashmiri carpets, plus local handicrafts and precious and semiprecious jewelry.

I will forever regret the day I shopped here!

I bought a wooden handicraft at the Museum Company, a retail store owned by Fort Royale. I paid extra for shipping and was told it would ship to my house in the USA. Instead, they put it in a box, loaded it on a cargo ship to a US seaport, using a commercial method of shipping no retail customer would ever accept. When I contacted Fort Royale to clear up the mess, I was told to examine my receipt. After taking my money he had hand written on the

receipt that the item ships only as far as the seaport. I was tricked by a clever, unscrupulous shop keeper, and due to the high cost ($675) needed to finish the transport (due to the complexity of importing at US seaports, not due to size or weight) I had to abandon the purchase. The item I bought is something I really wanted and the loss of it hurts and the memory of it will forever stain my otherwise great time in Cochin.

Exciting purchase of Indian arts turns in to a nightmare!

I would not recommend this shop for buying things because they have terrible customer service. They were really nice while they were trying to sell stuff. They assured me that they ship items all over the world including USA. I bought a lot of expensive items including furniture from them in good faith. Little did I know that the goods would not be packed properly and 11 out of 14 items shipped came in broken or damaged. The insurance company they

used to insure the shipment refused the damage claim on the grounds that the open crate packaging did not meet their requirements. It is unbelievable that would pack items that is coming via ship to USA in a manner that is not even acceptable to the insurance company they used to insure the shipment. Now they refuse to answer my emails, calls and Whatsap messages. I have just lost over 6000 dollars that I paid for the merchandize and this is not adding the $1000 I paid for port handling, unloading, and a host of other charges including delivery to my house. I would not recommend this store to anyone. As a customer I am paying for their mistake. Unless they resolve this issue they are definitely blacklisted. I would advise you to be careful while purchasing. They may be nice people but they certainly are not reliable.
