A true back-to-nature experience, this astonishing resort off the Wyanad RoAD 65 km (40 mi) northeast of Calicut has two extraordinary tree houses perched 90 feet above the forest floor. One tree house is accessed by a water-powered elevator, the other by a suspension bridge—to use either contraption requires a good deal of faith. If you suffer from vertigo, request one of the ground-level stone lodges. Everything here is constructed with indigenous materials, except for the modern bathrooms. Lighting is restricted to kerosene lamps, meals are served on banana leaves, and a resident elephant is available for treks.
