This rustic retreat is 20 bone-jarring minutes off the main road to Thekkady. Most guests come for ayurvedic treatment and yoga; the emphasis is on serenity and relaxation. A wooden bridge over a duck pond leads to the main building—a whitewashed, thatch-roof affair that houses a restaurant specializing in authentic Italian and Kerala food. The spotless white cottages are largely minimalist—perfectly executed—with only a colorful bedspread, a stained-glass window, or an ancient, dark-wood oar adding bits of contrast to each room.
