A ferry transports you to this former maharaja's hunting lodge on an island inside the Lake Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. Six simple rooms, some with period furniture, look out through a palm-lined pathway and beyond to the lake and the preserve—you can spot animals from your balcony. Meals at the eclectic, fixed-menu restaurant are included. As the hotel is run by the state government, make reservations through the KTDC.
