Mysore, Hyderabad, and the affluent state capital of Bangalore have sumptuous hotels set in verdant tropical gardens. Since 1954, when the princely state of Mysore was incorporated into India, some of the maharaja's numerous summer palaces have been converted to luxury accommodations for travelers, including elegant restaurants in former grand ballrooms.
