When to Go

Like most of India, Karnataka and Hyderabad is nicest between October and February, when the weather is sunny and dry but not unbearably hot. With the exception of Bangalore, March through May is very hot, particularly in Hampi, with the temperature soating up to and beyond 104°F (40°C) but cooling down during the monsoon rains that fall June through September and periodically make everything wet, especially along the coast. If you can bear the heat, however, main attractions are much emptier in the hot months, and many hotels offer major discounts; but try to visit places like the Hampi ruins in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the hot sun. Many towns hold long religious festivals just prior to the monsoon.
