Whatever your interest in the Himalayas, contact the recommended tour operators for details. Most will design a special trip just for you, whatever your budget or age. It's especially important to use a tour operator if you're keen on camping, trekking, or rafting. Smaller outings can also be organized through your hotel. Try to make arrangements at least two months in advance. If you're planning a trek, contact a tour operator who is familiar with the specific area you have in mind. Play it safe: don't embark on any route without a guide. Travelers in high-altitude areas should heed all warnings about sun exposure and high-altitude sickness—allow up to three days for full acclimatization. Even if you'll be ensconced in a jeep, bring powerful UVA/UVB sunblock, a wide-brim hat, and sunglasses that block ultraviolet rays.
