Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh Sights

Whatever your interest in the Himalayas, contact the recommended tour operators for details. Most will design a special trip just for you, whatever your budget or age. It's especially important to use a tour operator if you're keen on camping, trekking, or rafting. Smaller outings can also be organized through your hotel. Try to make arrangements at least two months in advance. If you're planning a trek, contact a tour operator who is familiar with the specific area you have in mind. Play it safe: don't embark on any route without a guide. Travelers in high-altitude areas should heed all warnings about sun exposure and high-altitude sickness—allow up to three days for full acclimatization. Even if you'll be ensconced in a jeep, bring powerful UVA/UVB sunblock, a wide-brim hat, and sunglasses that block ultraviolet rays. For travel to remote areas, bring a means of water purification, a quart-size canteen, and energy-producing snacks.

To visit the Nubra, Khaltse (Drokhpa area), Tso Moriri, Pangong Tso, and Nyoma subdivisions in Ladakh, foreigners must travel with at least three other people and a government-recognized tour operator; they must also obtain an Inner Line Permit, which most tour operators—and even better, most hotels—can secure.
