Himachal Pradesh has some memorable luxury hotels at Mashobra and Shimla as well as notable hotels or bungalow lodges in Shimla, Dharamshala, Dalhousie, and in the Kangra Valley.

Ladakh has a number of family-run, traditional hotels memorable for their character; but very few luxury hotels. Rooms are generally simple, with heating provided in winter and during cold spells and hot water only in the mornings and evenings. Hotels are only of a few stories high and do not have elevators. Electricity can disappear at times because of "load-shedding," and hotels usually lack backup generators. Nearly all rooms come with televisions but not always with room phones.
