Goa Sights

Dudhsagar Waterfalls

Updated 10/04/2012

Fodor's Review

With a name that means "sea of milk," these waterfalls are imposing, with water cascading almost 2,000 feet into a rock-ribbed valley. They are at their most impressive when the monsoons arrive, but this also makes the approach road inaccessible, so the ideal time for a trek here is between October and the end of April. Pack refreshments and beach towels, and plan to spend a morning here; monkeys, birds, bees, butterflies, and thick foliage complete the wild experience. The Goa Tourism Development Corporation runs tours from Panaji and Calangute (9 am–6 pm; around Rs. 700) in a non-air-conditioned bus, which include the falls and the nearby Tambdi Surla Hindu temple, built in the 13th century. You could also take a train to Dudhsagar from Margao and get there in an hour and a half.
