Fodor's Expert Review Fort Tiracol

Tiracol, Goa, 403524, India

Editor's Note: This location is reported to be under new ownership and therefore this review may contain inaccuracies.

This small 18th-century Portuguese fort, situated at land's end nearly at Goa's northern border, is now a striking heritage hotel with incredible views over the Arabian Sea and the Terekhol River. Each of the luxury rooms is furnished with exquisite antique furniture and accented by modern accessories and hand-detailed linens. Arambol, the closest town, is 8 km (5 miles) and a ferryboat ride away, but if it's peace and quiet you want, you've come to the right place. You can visit the fort and have lunch or dinner on the terrace overlooking the rugged shoreline even if you're not staying at the hotel.

PROS

  • lots of privacy
  • inspiring views of the Arabian Sea from every room

CONS

  • isolated
