Fodor's Review

White tigers are the draw at Delhi's zoo, which was designed in the late 1950s by the German designer Carl Hagenbeck. There are many other noteworthy animals roaming about, such as emus, gazelles, Indian rhinos, and a great many deer, not to mention some smart-looking waterbirds. Animals in cages, including the famous white tigers and Asiatic lions, are part of the national collection. The zoo is spacious and leafy, a virtual botanical garden for peaceful walks, and the central lake hosts numerous Central Asian migratory aquatic birds (pelicans, storks, and cranes) pausing on their way to Keoladeo National Park in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, for the winter. If you don't have time to make it to Bharatpur or a tiger reserve, this is a pretty good alternative.
