The Taj Mansingh, as it's locally known, is Delhi's premier social hotel, with nightly cocktail affairs, cultural events, and the occasional society weddings drawing the glitterati. The lobby has Mughal-inspired decorative domes, a giant Oriental rug, and a general feeling of bustle, so you won't feel like you're off in a tourist enclave. Rooms have simple Western furnishings; those on the pool side overlook plenty of greenery. Pros: centrally located in prestigious Lutyens' Delhi; popular with business travelers and celebrities, and the service is correspondingly slick. The coffee shop, Machan, throws frequent food festivals and hosts Delhi's best Sunday brunch. Cons: rooms on the small side, flagship restaurants are overpriced, and lag behind other hotels in this class in quality.
