This no-frills, three-story vegetarian family joint bustles nonstop from 8 am to 11 pm. The dosa is king, and you can choose from 20 varieties, including some made with rava (semolina) rather than lentil flour. The vegetable uttapam (rice-flour pancake) is also good, and there's a North Indian menu with delicious bhindi masala (spicy okra). The wonderful thalis, or combination platters, are served from 11 to 3 and 7 to 11.

Sagar in Defence Colony has been going strong since the mid 80s. While I feel that they have diluted their brand by opening one too many mediocre branches, the original retains its quality standards. The food is excellent and the staff is efficient and polite. They are famous for their dosas, and for good reason. Their sambhar would also rank at the top among the sea of south indian restaurants in Delhi. But to me personally, their idlis are their
crowning glory. The decor though could use some cheering up. It feels a bit dark and gloomy for such a no nonsense, quick eat kind of place. While the prices have risen in the recent years, it still remains a top choice for a great, cheap meal.
