Simple presentations of classic Punjabi and Mughlai fare such as raan (leg of mutton), tandoori naan, and dal makhani (lentils with tomatoes, ginger, garlic, and cream) draw top marks here thanks to fresh ingredients and a light hand with the oil and ghee (not the case at many North Indian joints). Zaffran also serves excellent spicy biryani (rice and meat, cooked together) and imports Parsi kulfi (ice cream) from a dairy in Mumbai. Despite its popularity with families and the busy open kitchen, the minimalist blond-wood dining room is refreshingly calm, thanks largely to efficient, friendly, and knowledgeable staff.
