Taxi meters here are accurate, but due to an increase in gas prices, everyone pays exactly double the meter fare. Still, cabs in Calcutta are less expensive than in the rest of India - assuming you don't get driven five times around the Maidan, the fare should be just. Traffic, unfortunately, plagues Calcutta, and at rush hour you may just want to find a sweet shop and wait until it's over.
