By Hired Car with Driver in Calcutta

By Hired Car with Driver

A car with driver is reasonably priced by Western standards. The cost is determined by the number of hours and a specified number of kilometers. You will pay extra if you exceed the time or kilometer allotment. Establish the surcharge in advance.

You can hire a car and driver from a travel agency (see Visitor Information) or from the following car rental companies: Travel Cars (Queens Mansion, Garage No. 8, Park St., tel. 33/249-4970), Time Cabs (13 Carmac St., tel. 33/247-9574), or Wenz (in the Oberoi Grand, tel. 33/278926). Expect to pay Rs. 400-Rs. 600 for half a day (four hours) and 80 kilometers (50 miles), with an hourly and per-kilometer rate afterward. If you plan to do a lot in a little time, hiring a car can be useful, but just using taxis can work out to be less expensive and you do not need to find parking or to remember where you left your car (and driver).
