Of Kashgar's two popular hotels, the Qinibagh is looking the worse for wear, and only their dorm rooms are worth recommending. Located on the site of the former British consulate, this hotel has an interesting history. Constructed in 1908, the consulate building—now an attractive Uyghur restaurant—was home to diplomat Sir George McCartney and his wife for 26 years. Don't expect historic rooms, though—the hotel buildings are '60s-style monstrosities. There are branches
of CITS and John's Information Café, two travel resources, on the premises. Dorm rooms are a bargain, and are set around a reasonably attractive courtyard.
