Directly across from the Bell Tower, this centrally located hotel puts you within walking distance of many tourist sights. The grand marble lobby is impressive, but the standard rooms are bare. On the second floor, you can compare rates offered by three experienced travel agencies, all competing aggressively for your business. Rooms at the front of the building are more expensive because they have views of the Bell Tower, but some visitors are disturbed by noise from the
traffic. If in a group or traveling with family, shelling out for the suite might be worthwhile. Like many hotels in China, remember to ask for a nonsmoking floor if you don't want your room to smell like smoke.
