Up in the verdant mountains behind the old town sits the Higherland Inn. At 8,500 feet, it's the perfect place to start a hike or just enjoy the view. The walls are a little thin, so it's not the best place for light sleepers. Meals are similar to those you'd find in town, and feature both Chinese and Western dishes. There is a booking office in Dali at 67 Bo'ai Lu, near Renmin Lu; reserve ahead to get a discount on the Y30 fee to ascend the mountains.
