Ganlan Basin

Fodor's Review:

One of the more scenic areas of Xishuangbanna is Ganlan Basin (Ganlanba), 37 km (23 mi) from Jinghong. Minority peoples still live in bamboo huts here, amid the beautiful rain forest. The area is famous in Yunnan for its tropical flowers and the millions of butterflies that inhabit this valley. If you want to spend a few days hiking and investigating the basin, you can stay at one of the many village guesthouses, most of which accept foreigners.
