URBN Review

Innovatively designed and environmentally friendly, URBN is Shanghai's first carbon-neutral hotel. Made with environmentally sensitive technology and recycled materials, URBN is a truly unique place to stay. The staff is attentive and well trained, making guests feel at home from the moment they step into the hotel's tree-shaded courtyard. The design is superb, with a leather-encased reception desk, slate decor, and a quiet, private bar on the top floor. URBN provides a wide variety of alternative entertainments, including Chinese cookery, calligraphy and tai chi classes, bike tours, and yoga lessons.

Glamorous Green
This tucked-away Shanghai oasis blends a wide range of design influences: mid-century-modern chairs mix with sunken stone bathtubs, bamboo plants share real-estate with a wall of classic steamer trunks, and vintage typewriters gleam near the restaurant's daily-specials blackboard. But rather than sacrificing the environment for aesthetics, China's only carbon-neutral hotel has embraced its local ecosystem. All of the wood is reclaimed, the plant life locally sourced, the water purified on site, the restaurant touts a farm-to-table ethos, and the spa showcases local organic skincare products in its facials. Discerning urbanites, particularly those who fantasize about rooftop gardens and eco flair, shouldn't bother staying anywhere else.
