Hidden down a small lane, Old House Inn is one of Shanghai's few boutique hotels and a must if you're looking for a personalized experience that the larger hotels just can't offer. What this tiny gem lacks in amenities (there's no elevator, gym, concierge, or business facilities), it makes up for with its authentic Chinese style and charm. All rooms are decorated with antique dark-wood furniture and traditional porcelains, and the friendly staff is so eager to please that they'll even run down to the end of the lane and find you a taxi. Adjacent to the hotel is the swanky A Future Perfect restaurant, popular with both expats and trendy locals for its outdoor café.
