Renaissance Yangtze Review

Next door to the Sheraton Grand Tai Ping Yang, the Renaissance does not quite match its neighbor's detailed elegance and service—or lower prices, for that matter. It is nonetheless a great option in the Hongqiao area, with eight executive floors catering to conventioneers and corporate types with business at INTEX and Shanghai Mart. There's a good-size gym and pool and an often-overlooked cigar bar. The hotel's long-standing reputation for top-quality catering at its five restaurants is well deserved, particularly at its Chinese restaurant, Dynasty. Rooms are warm, with sunrise-golden comforters and drapes, vermilion club chairs, and auburn-tiled bathrooms. The general manager is often to be found chatting with guests in the lobby or greeting staff by their first name, a surprisingly personal touch among Shanghai's five-star hotels.
