Once part of tycoon Victor Sassoon's estate, the Cypress Hotel's shaded, stream-laced grounds remain a tranquil retreat in noisy Shanghai. From all of the hotel's rooms, you can look out over the garden and actually hear birdsong rather than car horns. The extensive health club boasts a swimming pool and outdoor tennis courts, which help to compensate for the hotel's limited English-speaking staff and location far from downtown Puxi.
