Shanghai Doland Museum of Modern Art

Shanghai Doland Museum of Modern Art Review

Opened in December 2003, this is Shanghai's first official venue for modern art. The six-story museum's 14,400 square feet of exhibition space include a tiny shop selling art books and a metal spiral staircase that's a work of art in itself. The exhibitions, which change frequently, are cutting edge for Shanghai. It's showcased electronic art from American artists, examined gender issues among Chinese, and featured musical performances ranging from Chinese electronica to the dombra, a traditional Kazak stringed instrument.
